How To Choose The Right Carpet

03 August 2023

Carpet requirements will differ throughout the house so please see the following brief guide to help you make the right choice.

Hall, Stairs And Landing

As these communal access areas have a high traffic level, we recommend at least a 45oz hard-wearing carpet ideally with a short to medium loop pile with good density. This will stand up to the day-to-day wear throughout these frequently used areas.

Living Room

This is another part of the house that generally has a lot of traffic so it's worth considering a good quality durable carpet in the region of 50oz to 60oz with stain-free qualities and feels comfortable underfoot.

Dining Room

A separate dining room is unlikely to be used as much as other areas in the house however we still recommend a good quality carpet that will allow for the movement of chairs and feet especially under the table. A carpet with stain resistant qualities would also be a good option in this space.

Bedroom

As bedrooms tend to have less wear than other rooms in the house you may wish to choose a deeper pile carpet that will feel more sumptuous underfoot and give your bare feet a “squish factor” when getting in and out of bed. Regular vacuuming is recommended with these types of carpets.

Bathroom

Although not a common choice for bathrooms, we would recommend an easy to clean carpet with waterproof backing and stain resistant properties.

Home Office

With the frequent movement of office chair castors, we would recommend a short pile durable carpet for this room.

Underlay

Often overlooked but an essential part of fitting new carpets is choosing the right underlay for the right room and areas of the house. Please refer to our dedicated underlay blog for further details.
